Learning the difference between inherited and learned traits, students documented dominant traits they possessed. Examples include attached vs unattached earlobes, second toe bigger/smaller than big toe, dimples/no dimples, widow's peak/no widow's peak, etc. We used PTC tasting strips to find out who carried that dominant gene. Twenty six class members could taste the bitterness while five could not as they carried the recessive gene. Of the twenty six 'tasters', seventeen were 'super tasters' and had highly sensitive taste receptors. After this exercise, students had to find the classmate who shared the most dominant traits as themselves.
